USO Denver Celebrates Volunteers with Ugly Sweater Party Volunteers are the heart and soul of the USO. Without their unwavering excitement and support of the USO’s mission, we would not be able to provide a warm touch of home to our military service members and their families. On Sunday, December 8th USO Denver’s Staff hosted an Ugly Sweater party to recognize our volunteer team’s accomplishments throughout 2019. Volunteers donned their holiday sweaters and enjoyed homemade chili and cornbread along with a variety of appetizers while visiting with one another. Awards and recognitions were distributed to all volunteers for their service through milestone hours and years of service awards, and our volunteers who go above and beyond were recognized for their additional contributions through USO Mission Awards and Volunteer of the Quarter Awards. All USO Denver Volunteers also received a USO tote, USO Volunteer T-Shirts, a USO Holidays Santa Hat, and other treats as a thank you for their time, talent, and dedication to our mission of connecting our nation’s military service members to the things they love the most: family, home, and country. For more information about joining our team of amazing USO Denver volunteers, please visit http://denver.uso.org/volunteer #SantaSelfies Santa returned for another exciting Operation: We Love Recruiters adventure in the Denver Metro area. We set out on Tuesday with a truck full of smiles, #USOHolidays cheer, and of course Santa’s bag of toys! #SantaSelfies photos were flying around the recruiting commands faster than we could travel to the next station! Overall, we distributed over 140 toys to local military recruiters of all five branches including the Colorado National Guard. Did we visit you? All of the photos from this year’s adventure with Santa can be found here (and in the slideshow below): Operation: We Love Recruiters is a program designed to connect military recruiters with the USO family. While most active duty military service members work at a military installation and have a community of their peers to rely on, those in the recruiting field only have a handful of other people in their office, and almost all are located away from military installations. We’ve designed this program to provide a smile and a “you’re not forgotten” along with a small token or treat around various holidays throughout the year. The items themselves are relatively inconsequential compared to the interaction with the volunteers and any other special guests who stop by and visit. The items provide an icebreaker and a more substantial reason for a visit. Visits are typically no more than 10 minutes for each office to ensure we’re only offering a quick break in their day as we realize the recruiters have a job to do too.
