We had an amazing time on a trip to the field from F.E. Warren AFB, Cheyenne to tour a Missile Alert Facility (M.A.F.) with the 319th Missile Squadron of FE Warren AFB and their families on September 29th. Along side family members, USO Denver’s team had an opportunity to learn about their mission and operations at a M.A.F.
FE Warren’s 90th Missile Wing is comprised of 4 Missile Squadrons each responsible for operating 5 MAFs. These Missile Alert Facilities are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days each year, so there are constant rotations of military members coming in and out to fulfill their mission before heading back home to their families. Schedules are tough and travel distances can be upwards of 3 hours each way, but each military member we talked to was proud to be a part of such a great team and support an important mission.
USO Denver’s team provided a BBQ lunch and some gigantic games for everyone to play while groups were rotating through different tour locations. We also took time to learn how these military families are impacted by the operations tempo. Now that we have first hand knowledge of life at a MAF, we’re going to come up with some program support specific to supporting these airmen and their families.
